On the About page, it would be nice to publicly display web statistics. It's not possible to make the Google Analytics dashboard public, so some more involved solution will be required.

Since we have our own server, I would advocate Piwik which I think is really nice. I guess extracting some diagrams from its DB (with some PHP) should not be too hard... As an added benefit, we would not feed Google with information about our visitors (I agree it is relatively harmless in our case but, still, I think it is better to respect people's privacy).

I second the suggestion of using Piwik (assuming someone is willing to set it up). I'd run both Google Analytics and Piwik in parallel though, to make sure we're getting what we need. If Piwik is ok, I'd be happy to turn off Google Analytics.
