Integration with OpenTelemtry

I want to integrate my AI agent with an OpenTelemetry vendor. To do this, I understand that I need to create an implementation of SplObserver and inject it using the observe method. Is this the correct approach? Also, even if this is the right way, it feels a bit odd because there's no documentation, and I have to dig through the code to understand the events that are being raised. Is it safe to rely on what I see already implemented in the AgentMonitoring class? Thanks in advance!
