Visual Studio Code addons

Hey folks!

Want make proposals for future which can be useful for whole community.

RmlUi is very nice in all aspects for developer (especially architecture) but will be great to a bit up it's also and for designer role.

1. RML / RCSS dialects support

• File type recognition
• Code highlight
• API tips / suggestions / code-completion

2. Visual realtime RML preview

• Side layout
• Hot reload after file saving (or changes)

When will be more time i will make research and maybe start do it's, but will be only happy of someone with Visual Studio Code plugins experience will find this issue interesting and take it's for do.

Thanks for the kind words. And I agree very much, it would be super nice to have a VS Code plugin (and other IDEs too). I'd be really interested in seeing this implemented :)

There are some related thirdparty tools here that could perhaps be useful when implementing this: #186. Things like the sprite sheet editor would be cool, but I think the most useful thing would be proper syntax highlighting and code completion. For me, HTML/CSS syntax highlighting works quite well in most cases, but there are some differences occasionally.

This sounds cool. What I do is name the files .html and .css and the experience is OK.

Here is small research and potential ways of implementation:

1. For dialects support - enough to make packages with modified rules, base for this exist in vscode repo

2. For RML preview can be builded application (for each platform) which will communicate with vscode by socket, once document changed vscode will send request for action and application will output image with actual rendering result, then WebView preview window will set content as image, that's looks enough for MVP version, after can be analyzed ways for implement realtime animation / input

Would be great to implement debugging of data-bindings and how data is handling on rml's side
