Development of the next generation of encryption and security features

Integration of new authentication mechanism, like OpenID Connect (OIDC)

Direct support for enterprise customers with existing identity
managementservers

Deployment of peer-to-peer (P2P) across the Matrix network

This seems largely out of date, incorrect, or not well explained.

  • Development of the next generation of encryption and security features
    • This is a general topic that would probably be appropriate for the Foundation to handle. In reality, the Foundation does not have an engineering team and it is not clear whether it should. In practice, these things are currently funded and contributed by interested parties directly (MSC4256: RFC 9420 MLS mode Matrix matrix-spec-proposals#4256) or by proxy where someone contracts an expert e.g. Element.
  • Integration of new authentication mechanism, like OpenID Connect (OIDC)
    • this appears to currently be funded by Element (maybe as a proxy?), it is really unclear to me how it would be handled if someone turned up to the Fdn and said "here's 5 Mio, make OIDC happen"
  • Direct support for enterprise customers with existing identity managementservers
    • "managementservers" -> "management servers"?
    • since when it the Fdn offering support? does the Fdn have an existing business model for selling support with a broker markup?
  • Deployment of peer-to-peer (P2P) across the Matrix network
    • a valid prospective project I suppose, with the same issue of the first point

Either way, this is a list of technical features that are not the Foundation's focus at least for now, while all the work we actually do is not mentioned.

In the Website WG, on 2025-04-24 we decided to rework the /support and /membership pages so that:

  • /support is renamed "Support us" and highlights how to support the Foundation:
  • /support removes all the "support us because look at the things we do" -> the Foundation will promote its work on the homepage
  • /membership and highlights how to become a member:
    • It lists all the members
    • It lists the various tiers for an organization. The Silver tier must have a slider-or-similar mechanism to list the fee based on revenue. In this section it mentions the Governing Board, how to learn more about it (by going to https://matrix.org/foundation/governing-board/), and a link to the latest brochure
    • It lists how to join as an individual (how to donate, how much to donate to become a member, when they will get the member status and how to get help) with a link to Donorbox

  • /support is missing one-off monetary donations and other monetary support such as benevity. we should take care that all the monetary support options are structured well (at least, better than before), e.g. it is currently hard to find the right donorbox button.

either way, you seem to be discussing a largely separate issue which might result in just doing away with the cause for this one?
