Simple option to share the build executables across repos

Hi,
It would be really great if I could put a copy of the build executables in a single location and share them across all/most of the repos I have using the template.

My main reason is that I often work on trains and planes without reliable Internet. I can easily make sure the template is updated before I get on the train/plane, but then switching from repo to repo without all of sudden needing to update the template I recently updated elsewhere completely blocks me.

Of course, sharing the disk space would also be nice.

Set $ID_TEMPLATE_HOME in your environment. Point it to a checkout of https://github.com/martinthomson/i-d-template and you should be good. Some older uses of the repository will not have a Makefile that links it up properly, but you can overwrite that in a lot of cases.

The update will still run the first time, because there might be stuff that your new repository needs that previous ones did not. It will fail when you don't have connectivity, but I think that it's going to do so somewhat gracefully. (I can't confirm it being properly graceful; a small tweak to that would be welcome.)
