With the release of Magma v0.3, the project has been redesigned into a standalone Prompt IDE. While macOS remains the primary development and testing environment, I want to ensure that Magma works reliably on other platforms where possible, in particular the Obsidian integration (Shell Commands, buttons).
Current Status
🐧 Linux
Magma now provides standalone Linux binaries (ARM and Intel) via Burrito. The core CLI functionality is expected to work, though the Obsidian integration (buttons/hotkeys via Shell Commands) might require manual path adjustments depending on your specific distribution and environment.
Status: Provided; seeking community feedback.
🪟 Windows
Due to technical limitations in the exile dependency (critical for the Pandoc integration), Windows is currently not supported. An underlying issue with file descriptor passing in exile prevents Magma from functioning correctly on Windows. Unless this dependency is replaced or fixed, Windows support remains on hold.
Status: Not supported.
How you can help
If you are using Magma on Linux, please share your experience!
If you encounter a specific bug: Please open a new issue with detailed information (distribution, version, logs) or—even better—submit a Pull Request.
For general feedback on how Magma runs on your system, please reply to this issue with the following details:
- Which Linux distribution are you using?
- Did the standalone binary work out of the box?
- Did you encounter any issues with the Obsidian integration (Shell Commands, buttons)?
- Any other platform-specific observations?
Your feedback and contributions are essential for improving cross-platform stability!
