v2 and v3 compatibility?

I can't quite follow what the plans for v3 are. v3's scope and goals seem to be totally different than v2. The problem is a lot of people rely on v2. I am wondering if v2 will be maintained? Or will it be possible to migrate? What if I use keys?

I saw a rejected pull request for v2 to not make an extra sql query when redis is used for sessions. So it seems to me that v2 won't be supported and work on it already ceased.

v2 is maintained, just that new features won't be added. It'll likely be supported until Summer of this year (can't extend it longer since I'm the sole maintainer)
