Bug description

My download folder is not displaying all the files. It's not because they are hidden but some other issue. See screen shot below showing files listed from the terminal and files listed in the download folder with nemo.

Screenshot from 2024-12-12 11-14-36

Here are screen shots of the individual windows:

Nemo:
Screenshot from 2024-12-12 11-16-53

Terminal:
Screenshot from 2024-12-12 11-17-34

E.g. the file 12004930900000081.pdf is not visible in nemo.

Steps to reproduce

Not sure how to reproduce it. It started happening yesterday 2024-12-12 GMT+1. Downloading files from firefox and then opening the download folder wouldn't display the files.
Also, if I copy a file using terminal to the download directory, it does not appear in nemo.

Expected behavior

When a file is downloaded into the ~/Download folder, it would be shown in the download folder in nemo.
When I copy a file into a folder, using the terminal, it should be visible in nemo when opening that folder.

Additional information

Restarting nemo by executing nemo -q from terminal is a workaround for the issue.

Restarting nemo by executing nemo -q from terminal is a workaround for the issue.

So if you restart nemo all files are shown?

  • When in this state, does F5 (refresh) have any effect?
  • Can you narrow this down to a particular file causing it? It could maybe be a thumbnailer issue.
  • How many processors/cores does this machine have?
  • Are you able to try this with a newer version of nemo? (A live ISO maybe)

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I'm sorry but I unfortunately think it will be very hard for me to try to reproduce this because I don't know how I ended up in this state and after I restarted nemo everything worked just fine. Maybe there is some log I can send you that might give any hints? Else, maybe it's too much work to find a fix for it and just have "restart nemo with nemo -q" as an acceptable workaround.

So if you restart nemo all files are shown?

Yes.

* When in this state, does F5 (refresh) have any effect?

I tried this multiple times, and reopened the folder but it didn't have any effect.

* Can you narrow this down to a particular file causing it? It could maybe be a thumbnailer issue.

If I get into this state again at any point, I will try to remember to do this and post on this thread.

* How many processors/cores does this machine have?

20

* Are you able to try this with a newer version of nemo? (A live ISO maybe)

I think it will be tricky because I've used nemo for about a year and I have never ran into this issue earlier.

By the way, I changed the frequency from "always" to "rarely" since it only happened once. The reason I set it to "always" earlier was because it was persistent when it happened.
