After upgrading to the latest Linux Mint release (Zena), the US International keyboard layout no longer produces ç when typing ´ + c.
This behavior worked in previous Linux Mint versions and stopped after the upgrade.
Currently, ´ + c produces ć, which follows Unicode rules, but breaks long-standing Portuguese typing behavior that many users relied on.
All other dead-key accents continue to work correctly.
Steps to reproduce
Open Keyboard Settings
Select keyboard layout:
Inglês (EUA, Intern. alt.)
Ensure layout is active
Type:
´ then c
Expected behavior
´ + c → ç
(as it worked in previous Linux Mint releases)
Actual behavior
´ + c → ć
Additional notes
This appears to be a regression introduced by updated xkb-data
This is especially relevant for laptops sold with US keyboards in Portuguese-speaking regions
