imv (sxiv, feh) directory scrolling

Describe the bug
imv (sxiv, feh) cannot scoll thru directory .. when i hardcast them in clifm they can ... by mimexec they cant

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
open jpg or any grafics in imv with mimeopening in clifm

hardcast imv can do it as expected

Expected behavior
imv next should show next image in diirectory

if i open .. for example imv 1-10 .. you can smoothly scroll betrween them .. and the same behavour should be when i enter-open one of those files .. but there seems to be no directory then

Hi @svmarkusfuchs. Yes, for the time being auto-open accepts only a single file. But, since it seems to be some interest in this feature, I'll see what I can do as soon as I get some spare time (it is not that easy as it may seem).

A few workarounds:

1. The i plugin (just enter i) displays thumbnails of image files in the current directory. If you prefer, you can replace/rewrite the plugin (~/.config/clifm/plugins/img_viewer.sh) with your own script (see point 4 below).
2. You can also use the view command (Alt+-) to run the file previewer (requires fzf and a graphics capable terminal).
3. Use the open-with command: ow . imv (basically the same thing as imv .).
4. Write a plugin (may be a simple shell script) to handle images as you like. You can even bind your plugin to a keybinding to make it even easier to call. Here's how:

a. Create ~/.config/clifm/plugins/view_img.sh (make it executable afterwards - you can use the te command):

b. Run actions edit and add this line to bind the above script to an action (it must be named pluginN in order to be able to bind it later to a keybinding):

plugin2=view_img.sh

Note: I use plugin2 because plugin1 is already taken by default.

c. Run kb edit and add this line to bind the action plugin2 to Ctrl+o:

plugin2:\C-o

d. Restart clifm: Ctrl+o should now display files in the current directory using imv/nsxiv.

Hi @svmarkusfuchs. 6cd1341 adds the ability to auto-open multiple files. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Please bear in mind that this feature is experimental and still has some rough edges.

A few caveats:

1. Multi-open (let's call this feature this way) only works for files sharing the same opening application (as defined in the mimelist file). If not, we have no reason to open them all with one or the other application: either way, we would be ignoring the rules set in the mimelist file. As a workaround, you can tweak the mimelist file (via mm edit) so that all your files match a single rule. For example, you can add the following line at the top of the images section: X:^image/.*=imv %x. In this way, all images are opened with imv (no matter if they are svg, png, or gif) and multi-open will work for all of them.
2. If 1 fails, you can always specify the opening application as the last word in the command. E.g., file1 file2 imv. Of course, placing the command name in the first place works as well.
3. You're always asked to confirm whether you want to use the application or not.
4. We don't check whether the opening application actually supports opening multiple files (I don't even know a programmatic way to do this). I guess the best way around this is to let the application itself complain if it doesn't.

hey leo .. it shows me that the hardcoded parts are implemented .. but i dont get imv to open scoll thu the directory yet... maybe i did a mistake .. or i changed the mm so much .. as image firstliner i have your solution now ..

generally i have a technical buerau.. engineering .. and use jpg and cad-pdf pdf alot ... so previewing is mandatory .. pdf doc and co work best by far in clifm tabcompletion .. this is amazing ... atm i work with imv *.jpg for imv n and p possibility .. but just hitting enter would be a real changer .. i mena .. clifm is for a oldscool bash user .. by far faster than ranger .. and nn or vifm are not competent enough for a technical enginieering bureau.. so im very happy with clifm ... bookmarking is working better than in ranger .. preview works bettter (except the imv problem) and opening possibilities are endless... great work

one thing .. can you out of the box add a shortcut for Ctrl U .. a onekey hit .. like # or something near the enter key

One more thing .. ristretto works .. no clue why and it even has a smaller footpring .. when opened with thumbnails scolline+ image open 65 mb .. imv 1 image open 128 mb

Could you elaborate on this? What do you mean by just hitting Enter?

As to the Ctrl+u keybinding, what do you expect it to do exactly? Running an image viewer or what?

Overall, is the new multi-open feature working as expected? Where exactly it falls short?

BTW, with the latest commit (ee3c7f7) *.jpg should do the trick. No more imv *.jpg.

1 Enter .. and imv/sxiv/feh let you scroll thru the directory... per n and p
but as mentioned before .. ristretto fullfills it out of the box..
ill fetch your latest commit and would be very happy .. as ristretto isnt as nice as imv/sxiv/feh

Oh, you mean that Ctrl+u isn't that ergonomic. Alt+c does the same thing by default. I hope it works for you. In any case, you can run kb bind clear-line to set the clear-line function to any keybinding you like (of course, not every keybinding is available).
