Support for new GPT-5 Codex models

What feature would you like to see?

Codex CLI now supports the new GPT-5 Codex models (low, medium, high).. i'm sure you are aware but would be great to have these in code:

It's coming! Honestly they are amazing!!!!! Have them running in a local build and will push soon.

Just tweaking the UI a bit. They produce a lot more output, so cleaning it up to make it more readable.

Phew, i've been forced to use Codex CLI today to check out the new models today and it's tough to go back!

@rhukster @zemaj Thanks for the push and the great idea—bringing GPT‑5 Codex tiers into Code fits perfectly with the bigger, richer replies folks want.

We’ve added three built‑in presets you can pick like any other model: gpt-5-codex-low, gpt-5-codex-medium, and gpt-5-codex-high. Code now understands these models and uses sensible defaults for their very large context (up to 400k) and big outputs (up to 128k), so usage info stays accurate.

You can try the preview right now:

Once it launches, open the model presets and choose one of the GPT‑5 Codex options to sample the new tiers.

Can’t wait to hear how the longer outputs feel and if you want any tweaks to readability. Maintainers will review and, if merged into a release, we’ll update this thread. Thanks again!
