EDIT: i thought the default couldn't be changed, and wrote a pointless post how ctrl-j should be enter. maybe it should be enter by default? i don't know how to delete this thread.

well this is embarrassing. it can be customized and it's in the man pages. i'm an idiot: "--bind=ctrl-j:accept" straight from the man page example.
