MOOSE Thermal Hydraulics Training at North Carolina State University (Aug. 13-14)

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and North Carolina State University (NCSU) are hosting a two-day, interactive thermal hydraulics workshop at NCSU to be held on August 13th – 14th, 2025. This workshop is intended to help prospective users get started with MOOSE modules and open source MOOSE-based thermal hydraulics applications such as OpenPonghorn. This would involve an overview of the methods to model flows with different approximations, and provide hands-on experience to help users. WORKSHOP TOPICS

• Introduction to the thermal hydraulics, subchannel and coarse mesh computational fluid dyanmics solvers of MOOSE and OpenPronghorn
• Hands-on exercises for building system and assembly models with opensource tools
• Simulation capabilities for coupling codes that can resolve different length scales
• Introduction to Sockeye, INL's heat pipe code
