You can add connections to a broad array of data sources in projects. You can use a connection to connect to your remote data source and select the data that you want to use to create metrics. {: #shortdesc}
From a project, you must create a connection to a data source before you can read data from it. For more information, see Add data through a connection{: external}.
IBM watsonx BI does not support platform or shared connections. This means, you cannot use connections that are created at the platform level and stored in the Platform assets catalog. You need to create data source connections within each watsonx BI project instead. You can create or select existing projects on the Data and Metrics tab. {: note}
