In Ibis, its Exasol backend uses the function pyexasol.connect. Its usage of PyExasol is currently pinned to [pyexasol>=0.25.2"] (9eb90ac) and does not have an upper bound. Today, we released PyExasol 1.0.0. This includes breaking changes to the function pyexasol.connect, where the goal of these changes is to improve data transfer security. For more details on the changes, please refer to the PyExasol version 1.0.0 release notes.

In particular, updating to PyExasol version 1.0.0 may affect users using Ibis' backend connection to Exasol via do_connect(self, user, password, host='localhost', port=8563, timezone='UTC', **kwargs) (see reference). websocket_sslopt=None is one of the default input values for the function pyexasol.connect(..) (see reference), which is internally mapped to:

{"cert_reqs": ssl.CERT_NONE} for PyExasol versions < 1.0.0 .
{"cert_reqs": ssl.CERT_REQUIRED} for PyExasol version >=1.0.0.

If upgrading to PyExasol version 1.0.0 results in breaking changes, Ibis users should:

• Refer to the PyExasol's Security page to determine which values are appropriate for their use case.
• Add their needed values into the **kwargs of do_connect(...), which are later passed onto the function pyexasol.connect(...).
