Higan not having any inputs in Controller Port #1 or #2

I'm trying to get higan to work and I have a controller connected, but when I enter the controller port, it doesn't have any inputs
Any solutions?

Make sure you're extracting all the files from the higan archive, including the Templates directory beside the executable, not just the executable itself.

higan in its current state is not very easy to use, you may have a better experience using the successor project ares.

I extracted all the files from the zip archive at the same time including the templates folder
The problem is still there, so I think I will try the emulator you recommended
