When using the extension with a wacom pen, it seems to work fine at first, with a cross replacing the mouse-pointer on the draw-canvas, but as soon you start to move the stylus, the cross dissappears, and you can only deduce its position by pressing it on the tablet and start drawing.

I confirm it is a wayland problem, uner X both the mouse-pointer and the stylus are controlling the same unique cross.
But judging my Xournal++, there should be a workaround for wayland, to render the current position with some highlite eg. see Edit | Preferences | View | Cursor | Highlight cursor position.
Hey @ankostis! Thanks for creating this issue and for providing so much detail.
I'm able to reproduce this behavior on an X12 Thinkpad. I'm not quite sure the cause yet as it does seem to work sometimes; I've been on Wayland for awhile now and hadn't noticed this issue before (when I was paying attention, at least) so it might a regression on my part or due to a VSCode update (since the cursor disappears anywhere on the VSCode interface when using a stylus).
I'm surprised you're on 0.1.21 and seeing a cross, however, as the pointer was changed to a dot in 0.1.20.
