Overview

Develop Research Ops for CTJ to streamline research processes and establish consistent quality of communication and research methods.

Action Items

  • Identify teams that have established ResearchOps successfully.
  • Connect with UXRs on these teams and learn from their experience.
  • Adapt relevant and effective elements to CTJ project.

We would like to establish ResearchOps structure by HfLA expectations before conducting further research. @kcoronel has reached out to TDM Calculator and Internship Project's Agenda to learn about their experience. These two projects has established ResearchOps that meets HfLA requirements. We will be speaking with their UXRs and learn about their experience and implement ideas that would be beneficial to CTJ.

After we establish the ResearchOps program at CJT, we plan to advocate for HfLA acquire UserTesting.com as sitewide tool to conduct user research. This would further assist with consistency and research integrity across HfLA.

Useful resources gathered from CoP leaders:
From Aparna (UI/UX CoP Lead) Hi Karen! Just came across these resources (Even though we put this together (the UI/UX CoP Co-Leads), reckon with the passage of time I forgot about it :woman-facepalming:😁). Anyways this is a good starting point for ReOps within Hack for LA.
This Wiki page is a good foundation for ReOps.
We have also had UX Leads specifically working on ReOps in the TWE team stop by and provide us with foundational training. Main purpose of the training was knowledge transfer of best practices between teams. Videos of the training can be found here
The Github issue with notes on the 'ReOps training - best practices' can be found here
To note: These resources are close to two years old, so some processes may have evolved. But having said that, the above process formed the cornerstone of TWE's ReOps.
Hope these additional resources also help with your team requirements!

Justyna shared the transcription of video for training which needs 1password access: https://docs.google.com/document/d/111gfpgguDGvVCPR3GVGgCwRRq32y2nKNYgGFVH8wHW4/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.vweo40btr04q
Vivian has access to it now. I would be great to get the training video.

Justyna shared this issue where the video link is embedded : hackforla/311-data#1927

Justyna said in the meeting that the video is password protected, the password is in 1password. I am not sure how to get access to it.

@xxl228 can you ask her to send you what vault in 1Password- because even if I wanted to input a password, this document doesn't let me do that, it asks me to make a request

Also @xxl228 do you want me to continue to ask the Internship project to meet?

Sounds like TDM will be the new standard. I think once I can explore a bit more about the their wiki and drive, I may have more questions for them. We can hold off on meeting with internship. I have access to their wiki anyways, it looks very similar to TDM's.

Notes:

  • Decided to hold on reaching back out to the Internship Project for a meeting
  • Sent a quick follow-up to Abby and Melissa from the TDM Calculator
  • Karen to start adding links in here from the TDM Calculator repo
  • Janis, Vivian, and Karen commit to
  • Templates / Organize Drive -- TBD once we get access from Melissa and Abby we will discuss
  • Get the issue up to date (make it an epic) @Janis-Mollineau @kcoronel
  • Start a google doc with the format from the TDM Calculator WIKI

Provide Update

  1. Progress: Have not worked on this, next steps are to start drafting the copy/format for MK Docs in a Google Doc.
  2. Blockers: With TDM Calculator sprint, Melissa and Abby's time is limited, so realistically don't expect them to send over the templates/reference doc.
  3. Availability: I can give this about an 1-hr this week
  4. ETA: Completed - aim to finalize this issue as an epic by mid-April

Please provide update

  1. Progress
: Have not made progress on this due to competing priorities, goal is to sync with @xxl228 after our TDM assignment so that we can compare what we've learned and draft an epic from that experience
  2. Blockers
: No blockers, just time constrained
  3. Availability
: no availability until mid/end of May
  4. ETA : will re-surface after May

FYI @xxl228 I moved this to Prioritized Backlog

Downloaded examples from TDM's drive and saved in a folder titled TDM UXR Examples.
Next Steps:

  1. Copy Over Templates that would be useful, examples are within the folder titled Research by Plan # and Name. I copied over 3 examples to give us a reference.
  2. Copied over the How-Tos folder, most of that content is standard can be used for our project right away
  3. Detail the research folder structure and get feedback from PMs. TDM organized the folder mostly based on their needs. For example, they organized the folder by presentation, by participants type. They also have a master sheet acts like a catalog that links to all files about research produced by the team. CTJ does not have any projects yet, I am not sure if that organization make sense. Maybe a master sheet to keep everything organized in one place is sufficient.
  4. Create GitHub Issue Templates for Research projects. Here is an example from TDM.
