Description
Description of the new feature
Many users submit feedback that the explore link is hard to find tucked away in the kebab menu.
For reference, every panel in Logs drilldown has a link to explore for that specific query:
These are not all the same query, so we can't add one button for every panel.
Our potential solutions:
- We can deprecate the ability to generate an explore/dashboard link to every time series panel, and only support the logs panel and then put a button in the header.
- We push filtering actions out of the panel header (e.g. include\exclude, add to filter) to make room for go to explore/ add to dashboard buttons.
- We leave things the way they are and try to provide better docs to onboard folks that links and link extensions are tucked away in the kebeb menu in Logs Drilldown, just like they are in the rest of Grafana.
All three are not optimal, but IMO 3 is the least terrible, especially because we've already supported external applications (investigations, assistant) adding links to the panel menu. We cannot allow other plugins to add top level actions within the panel headers, so it makes a better and more consistent UX across cloud/OSS if external links are housed in the kebeb menus.
