Running a single file with Gleam?

Hi!

I was thinking I'd get to know Gleam through this year's Advent of Code. Last year I did it in Odin and a year before that I switched between C, C++, OCaml, Rust, and x64 assembly. Always a single file per puzzle, nothing fancy.

I tried to compile a single file (hello.gleam) with no luck. I'm confused. It must be possible to compile a single file, I haven't come across a language where it wasn't possible. But how? And if it isn't possible, why not?

TL;DR: it would not be very useful, but would take significant effort to maintain.

Have a look at this if you are planning to use gleam for AoC :)

You can run a specific module (file) with the -m flag, e.g. if your file is src/hello.gleam you can run gleam run -m hello. It will still compile the whole project (I think) but only that module’s main function will be called.
