Description
Version
25.01-R14.2p1
What desktop?
Official MATE
Explain the issue and what happens
Install GhostBSD to ada0p5, but when I select GhostBSD, it always boots ada0p1 which is FreeBSD (UFS)
Explain how to reproduce the bug?
I installed GhostBSD to ada0p5 but when I select GhostBSD from either the Dell UEFI boot menu or rEFInd, it always boots FreeBSD on ada0p1. See red boxes in screen shot (attached) for config details
What is the Expected behavior (if applicable)
According to the UEFI entry on the wiki
3.. boot1.efi searches partitions of type freebsd-ufs and freebsd-zfs for loader.efi. The search begins with partitions on the device from which boot1.efi was loaded, and continues with other available partitions. If both freebsd-ufs and freebsd-zfs partitions exist on the same device the freebsd-zfs partition is preferred. boot1.efi then loads and executes loader.efi
Two FreeBSD partitions should work according to the above, and if there is a ZFS install, it should take precedence over the UFS partition install. The opposite seems to be happening in my case.
Additional context (if applicable)
I posted this on the Forum and on 1-Feb-2025, @ericbsd replied
I will have to look at what the backend installer does. My intuition is that the problem is two FreeBSD installed on the same disk
