Not working with .php files

The indention does not work with .php files, even if most of the file content is html. However, just changing the extension of the file from .php to .html makes the indention work as expected, both for the html part and for the php part. So it seems that the php file type excluded from the extension, and it will work fine if developers just include the php file type.
