Customer ID is always same as Customer Name and cannot be hidden from List View

In the Customer DocType, the ID (name) is always derived from customer_name, even when a Naming Series is configured. As a result:

Customer ID and Customer Name are effectively the same value.

The ID column is always shown in the Customer List View.

The ID column cannot be removed or hidden using List View Settings or Customize Form.

Since ID duplicates Customer Name, it adds no additional meaning and only clutters the list.

This behavior is confusing from a UX perspective because:

ID looks like a separate identifier but contains the same value as Customer Name.

Users expect either a meaningful, configurable ID or the ability to hide it.

Will changing the title field work for you?

Thanks for the suggestion. Changing the title field does not fully solve the problem.

The core issue is that Customer ID (name) does not support a meaningful Naming Series, and instead mirrors customer_name. Because of this:

• The ID shown in the list has no independent meaning

• It becomes a duplicate of Customer Name

• Users cannot define an ID format that matches their business needs

Instead of changing the title field, it would be more flexible if:

• Users could define a Naming Series for Customer, and

• That Naming Series value is used as the Customer ID, so the ID shown in the list reflects the configured series (e.g. CUST-00001).

This would:

• Give real meaning to the ID column

• Remove duplication between ID and Customer Name

• Allow different businesses to configure Customer IDs according to their usage

The same concern applies to the Supplier DocType as well.

For Supplier, the ID (name) also mirrors supplier_name, and Naming Series does not provide a meaningful, configurable identifier. As a result:

• Supplier ID and Supplier Name are effectively the same

• The ID shown in the list does not add any distinct value

• Users cannot configure Supplier IDs based on their business requirements
