Steps to reproduce

  1. Open BikeSharingHub.
  2. Go to the map view.
  3. Press the Home button to return to your launcher. BikeSharingHub will disappear into the background, and you won't see the map anymore.
  4. A few hours later, open BikeSharingHub again. You will return to where you left off. You will see the map view again.

Observed

  1. The "Last update" time at the bottom of the screen refers to the time when you were last using the app, a few hours ago.
  2. The app does not update. It will only update once you exit the map view and return to the "Nearby", "Favorites", or "All Stations" view.

Desired

  1. I would like it if the app could please update itself without requiring that I leave the map view.

Conclusion

I'm running BikeSharingHub 2.1.3 on an old LG G5 running Android 8.0.0.

Thank you

Hello and thank you very much for the feedback !

I was thinking about adding a "Refresh" button in the ActionBar at the top of the map view. Also, an automatic refresh could be performed when data becomes too old (I understand this is what you mean). Currently the same thing is done when you enter the app in the home view if data is more than 10 minutes old.

Hi! I think a 10-minute auto-refresh interval is okay. But a shorter interval, such as every 2 minutes, might be even better. The interval which bikesharemap.com uses is also 2 minutes. The citybik.es rate limit is 300 requests per hour, so a 2-minute interval is allowed.

If the auto-refresh interval was 2 minutes, even in map view: Then I think a manual refresh button on the ActionBar would not really be needed. But I may be wrong. If you wanted, maybe you could start a GitHub discussion, to try to ask other users.
