Are you asking how to know in advance how long an FDS simulation will run? This depends on the specifics of your computer hardware and the details of your simulation (number of grid cells, number of meshes, what submodels are being used, etc.). There isn't a formula for this, but with experience you will get a feel for how long a simulation might run.

Or are you asking how to know how long a simulation took once it finishes? In this case please read Chapter 27 of the User's Guide and also look at Table 22.6.

the units are seconds. (s). There are 60 seconds in a minute. your case took 30hrs.

if you are running linux i found if you include the nohup message in the command prompt, the nohup.out file is provided, which is the same as the cmd output text. But of course this is similar to FDS own .out file which records progress...

Doing this allows the CMD output to be kept live in effect....

I always go for time stepping wall clock time, rather than total elapsed time. 100%
