Q: How long must the Phase II transition API be available?

Will Metagrid and intake-esgf ever be updated to use Globus Search and the new Phase II schemas natively?
If yes, then how long after that will we keep the transition API available?

We may want to keep an API around for CMIP5 and some other small legacy projects. That said, they will be much smaller than the entire CMIP5 so we may have the opportunity to downsize from the entirety of CMIP6

Replacing the transition API with native Globus Search calls, if desirable, should be prioritized separately from the ESGF-1.5 transition at some point in the future.

We didn't have in scope for FY-2025-27 in the proposal to migrate Metagrid to Globus Search natively. That said, an existing js/ts component would address the issue expediently.

In the spirit of minimizing ESGf-1.5 effort for what is going to be a legacy system, the proposal is that we NOT plan to retire the transition esg_fastapi for now. That change and improvement could be prioritized in the future.
