Hi, MP4 is just a container format for different codecs. fre:ac already comes with support for the most commonly used ones, AAC and Apple Lossless. These are called FDK-AAC Encoder and Apple Lossless Encoder in the Windows version of fre:ac. If you are looking for a lossless format, you'll probably want to use Apple Lossless (also known as ALAC). By the way, the standard file extension for both formats is .m4a for MP4 Audio. The codec you seem to be referring to in your original post appears to be MPEG-4 ALS. That is an alternative lossless codec that never really gained any traction. Most applications and devices will be unable to play such files, so you'll probably not want to use it. |
