How can I exit the retry process after a failure?

I have an Action which role is to do some validations. In the case of an error I want to stop the whole process and and get back to the user with a proper message. Currently when I generate an exception after a validation, the process does not stop, embabel is still re-trying.
What is the best way to handle this.
