Janeway: embedded PDF won't display

Issue

A Janeway preprints author has submitted a preprint that could be successfully viewed, but which appeared mostly blank when embedded in Janeway preprints. Although the moderator managed to resolve the issue by "printing" the problematic PDF to a new PDF, the new PDF is a view-only image and no longer has selectable text or hyperlinks. Janeway and eScholarship both use pdf.js to embed PDFs, and additional tests have found that eScholarship does not have issue displaying the problematic PDF. Thus, this may be a bug to file with OLH.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open PDF in browser and preferred PDF browser. Note that PDF displays text.
   
2. Deposit PDF to Janeway, publish, and view embedded: https://dev.ecoevorxiv.org/repository/view/2903/ Note that PDF does not display most text.
   
3. Deposit PDF to eScholarship and view embedded; note that PDF displays text:
   

Expectation: Embedded PDF would display similar PDF view to eScholarship, or to opening in a preferred PDF viewer application.

Misc: Could it be related to this particular font issue?
