Description

Why

QA UCPMS is scheduled for upgrade on 2025.04.28; several new features in OA Monitor, Discovery Module, and Publications/Grants (org IDs) we'll want to test

What

Before 2025.04.28: back up any custom Reporting DB tables needed; no need to disable login

After 2025.04.28: QA new features & upgrade RT2 if necessary; release notes; upgrade pack notes

For clients upgrading from pre-6.21

  • For clients using Discovery:

    • Please note that as a part of the upgrade process, you will need to reapply branding to your Discovery sites including uploading your logo, favicon, and branding images and selecting your branding colours. We recommend ensuring that you have all of the required branding materials available before starting your upgrade, details of what is required are available on the support site. If you do not have copies of the branding images currently used on your Discovery sites, the Symplectic Support team can assist you.
    • Upon upgrade to v6.21, built-in cookie consent management for Discovery will automatically be enabled. If you are already using your own system to manage cookie consent in Discovery, you can turn off built-in cookie consent management via the new "Analytics & Privacy" tab on the Discovery Configuration page to avoid multiple consent dialogs. If Google Tag Manager is configured for Discovery, then upon upgrade the system will assume that scripts injected via GTM set non-essential cookies, and placeholder text regarding these cookies will be used. Clients are strongly encouraged to accurately reclassify the cookie usage of GTM scripts upon upgrade to avoid unnecessary cookie consent popups and/or to accurately inform users about cookie usage.
  • For clients using the Open Access Monitor, the new OA Monitor framework delivered in the past two releases has necessitated updates to the reporting database in v6.21. The [dbo].[OA Policy] table has been removed and replaced with a number of OA scheme tables, full details of which are outlined in the v6.21 release notes.

  • This release includes an address field re-processing that will result in the upgrade taking longer than usual if your instance contains a particularly high volume of Dimensions records.

We'll want to give a week for items from EuroPMC, Dimensions, Crossref, etc to update with ORG IDs (ROR, GRID, Fundref) to determine recommendations of next steps for eScholarship/RT2.
