bar not filled for example clustered_stack

i have been playing with some examples and found that bars (in the second group) are not filled for example clustered_stack.

Note also that these labels

              Private Caches            Shared Caches           Persistent Caches

are placed above the chart rather than below the X-axis, unlike the posted example.

I tried viewing my output using "gs" as well as the Ubuntu 18.04 DocumentViewer and saw the same problem , so I believe it's with the generated PostScript rather than the viewer.

I have gnuplot 5.2 on my Ubuntu 18.04 laptop. I tried building 5.4 in case it's a gnuplot issue, but 5.4 gave me this error

gnuplot> set terminal fig color depth 98 size 5.00 3.00 metric inches
                                                         ^
         line 0: size requires two numbers:  xsize, ysize

So i think this script is compatible with older gnuplot and not newer. It also suggests that the posted graph may have been successfully generated with some pre-5.2 version.

Solution:

run following commands

#install gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 7
brew install gnuplot@4

#set PATH variable
export PATH="/usr/local/opt/gnuplot@4/bin:$PATH"

#test that gnuplot is properly insttalled

gnuplot --version

#you wills see following output
gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 7

#run the command
perl bargraph.pl clustered_bars_example >> clustered_bars_example.eps

@naveedum -- unfortunately, it seems like that only works if you're running on MacOSX. On Linux, the solution is to build GNUplot 4.6 from https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/files/gnuplot/4.6.0/ . Place the resulting binary somewhere and direct bargraph.pl to it, and it'll work just fine.

./configure --disable-wxwidgets --enable-qt --without-lua --prefix=somewhereelse
followed by:
make -j
make install
is the best way to do it.
