Include notes in local search

When searching the local list of foods it would be nice to also include the category names / description.

Could be hidden behind a feature knob that is disabled by default.

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean that when you have a category called "Fruits" and you search for that word, it should only show items that belong to the Fruits category? But what about other items that simply have the word "fruits" in its name or brand? Should they also be included in the search results even if they don't belong to the Fruits category? I think mixing the item name/brand search with a category search like this would lead to a pretty confusing user experience at times. In my opinion, it's better to use the existing filter menu inside the search box to filter by category.

Or maybe I misunderstood you. If you just want to see which categories each item belongs to when searching, then you can enable the option under Settings > Foods, Meals, Recipes > Show Category Labels

Yes, I've meant it as a mixed search.

I see your point about keeping it separate.

But thinking about it, there is also the "Notes" attribute. I could also see including this field in the search. Similar to something like KeePass where the notes are also in the search (by default).

One reason to do this is when the product name is kinda misleading or not informational enough.

For example, I have currently in the freezer two fish products with the same name (pollack filet), different producer, and different characteristics. One is in a breading (panade), the other product is just the fish.

So I put more details in the notes attribute. Would you just adjust the product name locally?

Adding an option to include the notes field when searching sounds like a good idea and should be relatively easy to implement. Although for your example with the fish products, personally I would probably just put this information in the names like you suggested.
