Hi @jennac77 ! Thank you for this suggestion. As you point out, DataCite supports random string suffixes in our services and recommends them. Ex Libris would have to make this change in their Esploro integration. Ex Libris is part of the DataCite Registered Service Provider program, and we've reached out to them with your feedback. Let us know if you have any questions! |

What is the problem that your suggestion solves?
Currently, the DataCite integration into Esploro creates a DOI suffix that is not randomized. Instead the suffix just increases one number at a time. For example, if we made our starting number 1 with 8 zero padding, I believe the DOI minted in Esploro would follow a pattern. I am under the impression that it is better practice to have a random string as the suffix. To follow best practice, this means that when I add data to Esploro, I mint the DOI in DataCite, instead of using the integration.
What solution might meet your needs?
A solution to this problem would be to mint DOIs with random string suffixes through the Esploro integration. I am assuming this may be something that DataCite and Ex Libris would need to work on together.
