Cannot add spaces on mobile

What happened?

I went on dartpad.dev to test something out while being on my phone. After deleting the existing for loop, I wanted to declare a variable, but I couldn't add spaces. Had to create new lines to declare a variable.

Steps to reproduce problem

Go on a physical mobile device and navigate to dartpad, try to use the software keyboard to add spaces.

I did look into this briefly and tried to find the cause of the issue. The issue could be coming from codemirror itself but I am not sure.

I noticed that the new DartPad uses the following version:

dart-pad/pkgs/sketch_pad/web/codemirror/codemirror.js

Line 383 in 23b85fe

But it's worth noting that Codemirror5 recommends using version 6 since it has better support for mobile:

NOTE: CodeMirror 6 exists, and is more mobile-friendly, more accessible, better designed, and much more actively maintained.

I haven't gone further to test version 6 because I didn't know how the codemirror.js was produced.

It's milestone is "fixed in rewrite (hopefully)". There's a possible workaround (removing contenteditable) at codemirror/codemirror5#5367 (comment) but I don't know if there are other implications of removing that.

Here’s my use case for why this bug should be fixed.

My normal MacBook Pro development machine had to go in for repairs. So I set my iPad up with Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and external monitor as my temporary machine. So it was like I was using a normal desktop computer pretty much.

At the same time my previous Flutter job role ended and I was looking for a new role.

I had a technical interview coming up and wanted to prepare. So I headed to dartpad.dev to practice as obviously I couldn’t install the Dart SDK on my iPad.

But then I ran into this issue. I have an Apple Magic Keyboard connected via Bluetooth and I’m viewing on an external display, so having the space bar not work was really inconvenient.

I agree that the “virtual space bar not working on an iPhone” use case seems much more fringe.

But in my case this bug hindered me from typing with a normal Bluetooth keyboard on my iPad and preparing for my Flutter job opportunity!

My use case is simpler. I just want to test some dart ideas on the train. Shift-space is deeply cumbersome.
