[health: ^11.1.0]

Description

Let’s consider the following scenario:

A parent with an iPhone wants to track their children’s health data. The parent has two children:

  1. an 8 years old, who has an Apple Watch but no iPhone or iPad.
  2. a 12 years old, who has an Apple Watch but no iPhone or iPad.

I am planning to build a Flutter app for the parent, allowing them to track their kids' health data through their Apple Watches. The parent will set up the Apple Watches for their kids (as family members) using their own iPhone.

Using the Health package, Is it possible to fetch health data for the kids in this scenario?

I was looking into how to set-up a Apple Watch for a child who does not have their own iPhone, and discovered:

  • it supports a child to have their own health app (accessible under the apple watch app on the iphone used to set up the childs watch).
  • it also supports physical activity goal set-up and management

In addition, the following health & fitness is enabled (and viewable) through the Childs apple watch app on the parents phone.

Availability of features and apps

Health and fitness features:

  • High and low heart rate notifications are available for users 13 and older.
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is available for users aged 18 and older.
  • Fall Detection is available for users aged 18 and older.
  • Users under the age of 13 can use move minutes, rather than active calories, for their Move goal in the Activity app.
  • Users can also measure time in daylight. Parents can view the amount of time their children spend in daylight using the Health Sharing feature in the Health app.

Is it technically possible to fetch health data for kids under 13 who don’t have their own iPad or iPhone from the Apple Watch , even when the watch is set up via the parent’s iPhone using Family Setup? Can the package still retrieve their health data?
