I think that the best option is the fork https://github.com/liangzan/contacts for ruby 1.9. However I noticed that there was a issue (Invalid UTF-8 characters) when I try to get my hotmail contacts. Meanwhile you can use my fork with this resolved: https://github.com/eofferma/contacts,

It's working fine with liangzan or eofferma version with this configuration, but I'm getting this new error with hotmail since a week, any idea ?

Can you please specify the ruby version that you're using? I can't reproduce that problem on ruby-1.9.2-p290 or ruby-1.9.3-p125. Maybe is something relating with the data itself.
