Description

Overview
The MCP (Model Context Protocol) working group has developed a white paper detailing the integration of CAMARA APIs with Large Language Models (LLMs) via MCP. This integration aims to expose CAMARA APIs as callable tools, creating a standardization layer connecting AI systems to network capabilities.

This enhancement tracks the tasks required to define the ownership of MCP-related work within CAMARA and implement the roadmap outlined in the white paper (specifically Section 5): see MCP White paper.

The TSC is requested to review the white paper and provide comments, in particular in the section 5 related to the work to be undertaken by CAMARA

Approval of the the white paper implies approval of the MCP work to start in CAMARA.

Action Plan and Sub-Issues

If/when approved by the TSC, to progress the MCP work in CAMARA, the following potential actions are listed here for project consideration and allocation:

  1. Ownership and Roadmap Implementation: Determine where MCP workstreams (guidelines, tools, quality requirements) will be hosted within CAMARA (e.g., Commonalities, ICM) and detail the required work

Other activities may include:
2. Standardized Demo/Sandbox: Discuss the requirements and feasibility of hosting a standardized, interactive CAMARA GPT demo or sandbox for developer engagement.
3. Event Awareness: Plan MCP focused participation in the upcoming MCP Day at KubeCon Europe (Marcj 2026) and other events
