The geography covers Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri. This dataset is an aggregation whose ingredients derive from three main sources -- 1) state historic preservation offices (SHPOs), 2) National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) records, and 3) individual research contributions. It is maintained by the LMEC.",

"steps": "This dataset was created by aggregating disparate records of the Rosenwald schools into a single dataset. Source files included .pdf, .doc, .csv, and .shp. Files were formatted to be machine-readable, merged in a GIS, and populated according to the National Parks Service's Spatial Data Transfer Standards. Finally, a Python script was used to scrape the Fisk University Rosenwald school fund cards, and the fund cards' descriptive data was joined to the spatial dataset. The most recent update to this dataset was in March 2019. In 2021, the GeoJSON was uploaded to the data repository.",
