MWW from documentation produces no nomenclature output in arXiv

The mwe provided within the package documentation:

seems to produce no nomenclature section when used as a sample document in arXiv, nor when run in Texshop on Mac, nor pdflatex under tl2020 from my mac. We've had several users mention this issue (arXiv is running under the general TL 2020 release under linux) with their works, this may be something systemic in the package rather than unique to arXiv.

Did you generate the indexes?

Even when adding \makeindex into the preamble, and running makeindex, it generates no nomenclature.
