Problems with builds on MacOS host with CMake v3.31.x / Presumably solved with CMake v4 & Xcode 16.3

With the new CMake version installed via Homebrew, the following symlink :
$ sudo ln -s $(which cmake) /usr/local/bin/cmake
Seems to not be the only one we need to do. With that symlink, the command cmake --version returns :

cmake version 3.31.5

CMake suite maintained and supported by Kitware (kitware.com/cmake).

but the command /usr/local/bin/cmake --version returns :

CMake Error: Could not find CMAKE_ROOT !!!
CMake has most likely not been installed correctly.
Modules directory not found in
/usr/local/share/cmake
cmake version 3.31.5

Which is the same error I get when trying to build my app using with react-native-server

I created a symlink with sudo ln -s /opt/homebrew/Cellar/cmake/3.31.5/share/cmake /usr/local/share/cmake and now the build doesn't throw an error anymore

I don't know, but it reads to me like you just messed up CMake installation on your particular machine, so that now which cmake points to the location of an older, removed or broken installation. Perhaps, nothing wrong with this library setup.

This is following a clean install of cMake (delete all other version and trace of cMake) and installing it with brew install cmake

Hmm... I run into the same problem after upgrading from CMake 3.30 to the latest 3.31.5 on my macOS machine, installed via Homebrew 😓 Your workaround, @sambouchard-newforma , with sym-linking share/cmake folder, works fine for me. I have no idea what is (if there is) a proper / better way to deal with it, I'll just add the info to README, with a reference to this very issue; and I'll keep this issue open, hoping that somebody with more knowledge comments on it, or the issue magically goes away with future cmake versions 🤷‍♂

I get the below error with v3.31.5. Adding $ sudo ln -s /opt/homebrew/Cellar/cmake/3.31.5/share/cmake /usr/local/share/cmake didn't make a difference.

@sadikyalcin these are sure different issues.

The iOS / CMake, as mentioned above, I have no idea how to fix it for good, and it did not happened with older CMake versions, and if the workaround does not work for you... I guess, perhaps you need to use different paths in the symlink, or smth else... I can't really help with it at the moment.

The Android, I guess you just not using it with the latest RN and new arch?

@birdofpreyru I upgraded cmake to 3.31.6 and it seems all good.

I also ran this which might've helped with the upgrade: sudo ln -s /opt/homebrew/Cellar/cmake/3.31.6/share/cmake /usr/local/share/cmake

I haven't touched anything in project settings or anything in xcode.

Before cmake 3.31.6 (installed via homebrew) worked correctly. However, after updating to Xcode 16.3, I encountered this issue: react/react-native#50411. I resolved it by updating to:

• react-native: ~0.77.1
• @dr.pogodin/react-native-static-server: 0.20.1

However, I'm now getting this issue: .../dr-pogodin-react-native-static-server.build/Script-46EB2E0002B910.sh: line 21: cmake: command not found

@sultanmyrza (1) with @dr.pogodin/react-native-static-server@0.20.1 you want to use RN@0.78.x, as there no guarantees an earlier RN is supported; (2) have you symlinked cmake as mentioned in previous messages in this thread? this (symlink) is the only way I am able to make it work for me on iOS now.

Just sharing for future devs who might have similar issues. So far I bumped to react-native 0.79.0-rc.0

Bumping to later react-native version didn't help still getting same issue #130 (comment), #29 (comment)

By the way I have fresh install of mac M1 and before blindly running symlink command I check first by running: $ readlink /opt/homebrew/bin/cmake and got output: ../Cellar/cmake/4.0.0/bin/cmake

In my .zshrc I have the following

Will keep trying if I get any updates will post here
