Omarchy feels bit bloated

I’m not hating on Omarchy, but it’s kind of true that it feels a bit bloated. For example, Omarchy includes Spotify, which is a proprietary application, and also the Basecamp web app, which seems more like a personal Hyprland setup.

If you’re creating something meant for the public, it’s better not to focus on including your personal apps first! @dhh but still thanks to dhh for creating this setup!

That's not the matter. If they called OMARCHY is a distro , then I think they should llok at Fedora, did they they has bloats? and What about Spotify and also why basecamp web app????

If you make your own distro, you have the opportunity to have it tailored to your exact needs. If you take debian/ubuntu/omarchy/fedora, you can adjust it to your needs. Remove what you don't need, install what you need.

No, than what's the difference between Windows and Omarchy bloating
......the problem is not removing things..... suppose I'm graphic designer I need Gimp so, why I got basecamp and Libre office preinstalled or suppose I'm a programmer I need IDE and a browser so, why I got Libreoffice ...... Fedora/Ubuntu/Debian is not bloated they give a browser, file manager and just system tools and nothing more than that!

Say properly Omarchy is bloated....ven little bit but yes and I think they are advertising...... because why Basecamp web app is here! because Basecamp sponsered it....Look at Omarchy bloating and Fedora, fedora got sponsership from multiple sources but they didn't give any advertisement in their distro! Sure I can remove it....same case with Windows

I use most of the software that comes with Omarchy. I’ve started using some of the other tools as well. It’s an opinionated distro, and DHH uses this software himself. I don’t use Spotify or Basecamp, so I removed them, not a big deal.

How you are saying "NOT A BIG DEAL" ? It's big deal! So, In Windows I have paint, I can remove that, not a big deal! That's same! And did you asked yourself "Why Basecamp is here?" , it's paid advertisement, which should be not in Linux. I'm not hatting Omarchy but it is true....it's bit bloated!

I told you it’s an opinionated distro and these are the programs he uses, on top of that, Basecamp belongs to him. And removing software is as easy as it is on Linux, so it’s really not a big deal.

I get it — Omarchy’s meant to be opinionated, built around DHH’s own workflow, and that’s honestly what makes it unique.
Still, when something personal becomes public, people start expecting a cleaner base — something they can shape into their setup.
Sure, removing apps is easy, but that’s not really the point. The real question is why things like Basecamp, which are proprietary or sponsored, are there by default.
It’s not hate — it’s just a thought about keeping the spirit of Linux: freedom, choice, and no strings attached. 🌿

Everyone has their own opinion. Yours is different from mine, and both of ours differ from DHH’s. Something that feels bloated to you might be essential to me. You’ll never please everyone. I’m fine with the fact that DHH ships the distro with software he considers essential. If something doesn’t suit me, I remove it and install something else. It’s not a minimal distro.

There are a million distros out there to choose from, and Arch itself is a completely blank canvas. So if having Spotify or Basecamp part of the default install offends your sensibilities, you are probably better off picking something else. Omarchy isn't changing on this point.
