Hello ! So my server is now running and I am experimenting a bit more. First 'trouble' was the missing notifications. I read history of issues on gitHub and found out the workaround (#127 (comment)). Indeed I am also on /e/ OS therefore Lineage OS so I installed the Playstore app (via Aurora) and not F-Froid and I get the notifications.

But it is not perfect yet. I am not sure why, but the layout/presentation of the app via F-Droid and via Aurora (Playstore) is not the same. Icons, arrangement, interactive windows etc are not the same. This is very likely normal, I guess both don't use the same framework ? (maybe like a qt vs gtk ?).
Anyway, currently the strange thing is that with the Playstore app version, when typing, the android keyboard is hiding bottom half of the text that I am typing... a bit frustrating.

I would like to use ntfy instead and go back to F-Droid app (maybe less polished but efficient).

But then I am a bit lost. As suggest here (#134 (comment)), I had re-installed F-Droid Databag, so I disconnected it, I installed ntfy and re-logged into Databag.

The guide for ntfy says (https://unifiedpush.org/users/distributors/ntfy/):

2. Look for the Push Notification Settings or UnifiedPush Settings in the app. [that's OK, Databag is listed]
3. Select ntfy as the UnifiedPush distributer

But then I don't know how to do it because the Databag app only offers to toggle on/off the push notification and there is no 'choice' for ntfy.
What am I supposed to do ? Is it automatic ?

You need to login and logout from the app after setting the unified push provider

Did you by chance disabled google's push notification in settings > system > micro G ?

I did not disable google's push notification, is that necessary to use unified push ? But I should disable it only for Databag, unfortunately there are other apps needing google's push notifs.

I searched a bit and I discovered that in /e/ OS under the tab System, I can activate 'UnifiedPush'. It may work as well..

No, if you can, delete big tech from your life

f-droid one is mostly the same without the new Ux
To simply things
Uninstall databag, that will remove databag from google notifications
Install f droid version of databag
If the unified provider is already installed, when you login to databag it will pop-pop asking you which unified provider you want to use

That toggle is related to nfty, I didn't follow if e os implemented that or if the app ntfy is still needed but you can test after

Adding to the comments that @samuraikid0 summarized well. Thank you for the help and comments...

• The release plan for the UI is android, then IOS, then FDroid. I started early with android because google was forcing me to update with their more recent SDK. I am fixing the few issues discovered before pushing out to IOS and Fdroid, hopefully starting this week or next.

• I am aware of some layout issues with the new UI, but not where the keyboard covers the input text while typing, that does seem very annoying. Could you tell me what phone you are using so I can reproduce in an emulator?

• For push notifications, at login the app looks for UnifiedPush support, and uses that if available. Otherwise it will use the google or apple methods. Perhaps this should be more configurable; I am open to suggestions if there is a better way to configure this.

Regarding the layout issue, I attached a picture so that you see it. When starting to type, let say half bottom part of the letters are hidden.
I use a Samsung S9 (starlte) - under /e/ OS (up to date, currently on Android 12 about to jump to A13 as soon as devs can work on it I understood)

I got my hands on a Galaxy S9 and can reproduce your keyboard issue. I'll include a fix in the next android release.

Your app is so far really good and I'm happy to help. Thanks to you.

[If that can help, I also noticed that when typing within Databag, the virtual keyboard does not offer the usual 'help' that it provides in an app like Signal or Whatsapp. I mean, starting a sentence automatically with upper case or offering autocorrect.
Note that this is not really an issue this those 'helps' can be sometimes a pain...
I understand it may be an issue due to the ROM and not the app.]

I am struggling to find an elegant solution to the keyboard overlap on the S9.

I am thinking of falling back to a settings option, where you can specify an additional offset to the input to correct this issue. You would only have to set it one time.

Don't waste your time on it if it is smartphone specific.. possibly an offset option would be perfect yes.

The more I use Databag, the more comment/suggestions pop out. I'll put it in that message but let me know if it would be better to gather all in one single thread somewhere else, or a list.

Someone wanted to send me a link (let say a X-twitter link but could be any web link). The hyperlink seems not recognized, so it seems not possible to just click and open the link. And then I realized I was even not able to just copy/paste the received text (from smartphone, not web app). Is that a bug or the current app status ?

(I also stumbled across something when trying to set up a new admin password, but for that one I'd prefer to discuss directly... is there a way to send a pm on github ? not sure..)

I already made the change for offsetting keyboard in settings. I will try and publish it this week.

Adding the suggestions in this thread is fine for now. We can change it if I start loosing items.

You should be able to click/tap on a link in a message, and have it open the link in your default browser. I do some validation on the link, so perhaps there is a bug there. If you include "https://github.com" in a message, does that work?

We ran some tests, this is chaotic. That specific link, "https://github.com/" : I was able to tap on it and it would open - but some would not. I cannot find an explanation so far of what works, what does not.

But.. I confirm that it remains impossible to copy/paste a text from someone else's message.

Updated from g-play store and the offsetting works perfectly, thanks !

(though I have one question, why is github not updated then ? I was expecting to see that new version here ?)

f-droid integrates with the github releases, so I only create a new github release when I am ready for the f-droid build.

I create g-play releases by building the app and posting it to the developer console, independent of the releases.

Perhaps I am not testing your setup properly, but it seems to be working for me. I tested with both android-notiification and unified-push, using the 'test' container.

Do you see any errors in the container logs?
