So does this not blur the desktop background/wallpaper?

I'd given up on this extension a while ago because it didn't seem to do anything. Today something went wrong and I got this effect where the corners of my desktop background/wallpaper were a gradient to black which I thought was cool, except for my system locking up (and Wayland sucking without Alt-F2 > r)... anyway, I tried playing around with BMS again and actually saw some effect on the lock screen but it doesn't seem like it does anything with the desktop background?
