PIL.UnidentifiedImageError: cannot identify image file

PIL.UnidentifiedImageError: cannot identify image file 'C:\\Users\\Users\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\tmp9mgmvoj4.bmp'

I'm even checking in vcsi.py in line 31:
from PIL import Image, etc.
Reading from this article, it's already same. vcsi.py uses from PIL import modules instead of import modules only.
Checking the image file 'C:\Users\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp9mgmvoj4.bmp' and it turns out 0KB tmp file, tried re-generating thumbnail but not working. Always one image file that has 0KB size and turns out it's empty, no metadata image at all.

Is there's any solution for this? Thanks in advance

I had a quick poke through the code to debug this. The Python Pillow exception is a bit of a red herring.

The 0 byte file is being generated by make_capture():

You can see on line 575 it uses subprocess.call() to run the ffmpeg command it just built. I added a print debug above it to check what it was doing:

and then ran the command with ffmpeg directly to confirm ffmpeg was erroring writing that frame. For some people that will be because their ffmpeg was built without the right codecs, some people it might be a playback issue.

Either way, the solution on vcsi would just be improving error handling around calling ffmpeg. Replacing subprocess.call() with subprocess.run() would make it possible to handle ffmpeg errors more gracefully and report them.
