Auto rewind when blockchain syncing stuck

In the wallet help section on discord, many users have the problem that the wallet syncing process get stuck sometimes. Can this be fixed with an auto rewind, when last block is not increasing for more than a certain time? 

I'm also curious about what is the underlying problem of this phenomenon? should this not be fixed?
