Introduction

Welcome to the UBC DSCI-524 Collaborative Software Development project for group 8, please see the [contributors file](https://github.com/UBC-MDS/DSCI524_Group8/blob/main/CONTRIBUTORS.md) for the list of group members! We are committed to creating a friendly and respectful environment for learning and development, and therefore all participants in the project are expected to be respectful and considerate to others as outlined in the following sections.

This document is intended to codify our expectations, and all parties in Group 8 have agreed to conform to this Code of Conduct.

The DSCI 524 Group 8 Code of Conduct

We are dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all, regardless of background or identity. Discrimination or harassment of anyone based on any characteristics is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Furthermore, all contributors are expected to act respectfully and in good faith towards others to promote a positive atmosphere. Members should strive for inclusiveness and to welcome new contributors, regardless of technical experience, to promote project development!

All members of Group 8, and those choosing to participate in this project, are required to conform to this Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct applies to all project mediums managed by Group 8 including, but not limited to, Zoom, email, Slack, and GitHub. All group members are expected to assist with the enforcement of the Code of Conduct.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to show respect and courtesy to others in all events and communications. All interactions, whether digital or physical, should be professional. In order to foster a positive and professional learning environment we encourage the following kinds of behaviours in all Group 8 communication channels:

  • Use of welcoming and inclusive language
  • Be respectful of different viewpoints and experiences
  • Gracefully accept constructive criticism
  • Focus on what is best for the community
  • Show courtesy and respect towards other community members
  • Be extra regimented in our use of process.

Unacceptable Behavior

Examples of unacceptable behavior by group participants include:

  • Written or verbal comments which have the effect of excluding people on the basis of membership of any specific group
  • Causing someone to fear for their safety through intimidating behaviour
  • Violent or aggressive threats or language directed against another person
  • The display of sexual or violent imagery
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Nonconsensual or unwelcome physical contact
  • Sustained disruptive behaviour in talks, events or communications
  • Publication of private communication without consent

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Participants who are asked to stop any inappropriate behavior are expected to comply immediately. This applies to any Group 8 events and platforms, either online or in-person. Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned with the Code of Conduct. Participants unwilling to comply to these standards will be temporarily or permanantly banned under the discretion of the other Group 8 contributors for behaviour deemed offensive or inappropriate as outlined above.
