Hi @maanasee thanks for helping develop those beautiful lectures on input-output and spectral theory.

Using our lectures and John and Tom's network textbook, I gave a workshop on a similar topic weeks before.

I share my materials and feedback for the workshop here (cc @HengchengZhang for his interest in the workshop) and hope it will be of help for you to develop the Day 9 exercises:

https://github.com/shlff/normal_university_workshop/blob/main/production_networks.ipynb

There are several feedbacks from my teaching experience there:

  • the first is that it is easier to give some simple examples (e.g. two good cases) first as we introduce maths and basic concepts (e.g., the basic model, Leontief inverse, Hawkins-Simon conditions, production possibility frontier, relative price, etc.),
  • the second is that among those basic concepts, it takes a bit of time to interpret the concept of spectral radius and Neumann series lemma and address their importance when we simulate the model,
  • they are very interested in how we can apply the production network to do economic analysis (e.g., we can use real data to do counterfactual shock simulation and use different centrality measures to identify the importance of nodes)

Please feel free to ping me if you have any questions or need any assistance.
