zope.sqlalchemy is hardly maintained

Hi there, I am one release managers in the zopefoundation organization, so zope.sqlalchemy is under my duty.

The current status of this project is that it is (nearly) unused in the Zope/Plone community and nobody is maintainig it.

So maybe someone in the Pyramid community might step up as a new maintainer.
(I'd also be fine if this package would be replaced within Pyramid. So I could archive it.)

I got enough help to fix the most pressing issue (Thank you!) and to release a new version with support for up to Python 3.14.

But the need of an actual maintainer is still there.

It doesn't look super difficult to maintain. I do already maintain my own things, but it looks small enough I might be able to add it in.

I have not signed any contributor agreements with Pyramid yet (though I did get a patch merged). I've been involved in the open source community for about 20 years, and recently I spent an entire year on the Samba codebase professionally (mostly Python active directory code).

I had a look through the python 3.14 PR that was merged recently.

And 7 open issues, I haven't looked at those in detail yet.

It looks to me like Pyramid and Webob and related projects are dead. As much as I hate the thought, I’m looking into migrating from Pyramid to… where? Not sure yet, but using an unmaintained project is worse in the long run.

If it comes to it, I'll at the very least be maintaining a fork, as I'm in too deep to feasibly migrate away. If needed/wanted I'm willing to step up in the main project.

too bad, Pyramid is (was?) really an excellent framework... maybe it's time to move to something new... Litestar .. ?

The Pyramid is dead discussions really belong in another issue or even discussion? This was meant to be about zope.sqlalchemy needing a maintainer (which already has a matching ticket in that project) but the discussion is getting side-tracked.

Forgive my ignorance if it is but can't you relatively easily refactor an Pyramid project or start a new one using a replacement that would suit your needs, Pydantic for instance?
