Outline

We need artwork for our upcoming PostHog candles.

Deadline & Priority

Need to send back to the supplier before the end of December. Ideally Friday 20th given the upcoming holidays.

Technical requirements

From the supplier:

I've attached some of the assets for your artworker to design into. Firstly the belly band, which is a version of our Atlas Cedar candle. For the belly band, please note that we'll need to include your CLP information safety information on the base of the band, so please bear this in mind when creating your artwork.

Secondly there's the candle label, which we've created a cutter guide for you at W70mm x H60mm, but feel free to make small tweaks to the dimensions here, if you need to.

Additional comments

Couple of thoughts around design here:

  • We are working with a luxury candle brand. Most luxury candles (Jo Malone, Dyptique, Maison Margiela) have relatively minimal branding, so we should probably do the opposite - funny, informal, colorful.
  • Ideally we want a label design that means that people want to keep the empty glass for something once the candle is used up.
  • An appropriate hedgehog on the band could work, but not on the label (too small). Maybe a fancy hedgehog reading by the fire or a hedgehog in a nightgown holding a candle.

Right think there has been a mixup with the brief here (which is okay) but from the above information and then cross referencing with Earl of East's website I think the band is a paper band for the box and not for the actual candle itself. All that seems to go on the candle is the label.
Examples below

But alas we can still make this fun and cool, thinking a OTT hedgehog band for the box, then a PostHog branded toned down label to keep things in keeping with the candle aesthetic. Will now go and draw things brb

Also what is the Scent of this?

Ideas for names of this are as follows:

  • Quill & Flame
  • Bramble Flame
  • Rustle & Wick
  • Woodland Wick

I think knowing the scent would help develop a theme for the name and look (but concerned I'm working alone today so may have to make the call myself)

My idea would be calling it 'Quill and Flame' and just not including the scent stuff until we put it online.

Then for hedgehog stuff I'm thinking something more abstract or vintage feel about it, examples below

Aka gonna draw up some ideas now

Also what is the Scent of this?

TBD - I'm being sent three options but they will be 'fresh' and I've asked for scents that are nature-y.

For the name, we could go either olde world style (Quill & Flame I like) or a bit more tongue in cheek (e.g. Candle by PostHog)

Whatever we do, can we please say somewhere, "PostHog is so lit"

As usual I need @charlescook-ph help with copy
Think we could use the scent description to be funny seeing as we don't actually know what it will smell like yet
