First of all, huge thanks to the OnionOS team for all your work! I really appreciate all your efforts making the Miyoo Mini as convenient and nice to use as possible π
Maybe I'm just uniquely unlucky, but my issue is that I've repeatedly lost hours of progress in different games by accidentally triggering the 'load save' hotkey: because the way I (and presumably others) hold the Miyoo Mini is with index fingers resting on the back triggers, it's easy to press "menu" button and have the pressure accidentally press down R2 on the back at the same time! I understand the hotkey is intentional, but I think there are a few things about the behaviour around it that cross into bug territory:
- Technically, RetroArch has a "undo last load state" hidden in its own menus. However, if someone panics and presses the Menu button to pause their game and see if there's a way to revert their mistake this overwrites the rollback save state, so by the time someone's looked this up it's already too late!
- After this happens and the user accepts the loss, there's no option anywhere in the OnionOS settings to disable or remap that hotkey so there's no easy way of preventing it from happening again.
- Given that it's possible to trigger accidentally, there's no confirmation message, and the consequences are irreversible (unless you don't panic and already know the exact RetroArch menu item to choose), it seems like something that should be easy to turn off or undo (if not changed as default behaviour).
I've found several Reddit threads where other OnionOS users have lost hours of progress to a similar fate, so I know I'm not the only one!
Some possible solutions:
- Add a toggle to disable the save/load state hotkeys in settings
- Add a "press again to load previous state" screen when the hotkey combo is pressed to reduce accidents
- Add an "undo load save state" option to the GameSwitcher menu
Thank you for considering this! I know software maintenance is hard and often thankless work, so genuine thanks to the whole team for everything you do.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open a game in OnionOS that has an existing save state
- While resting your index finger on R2, squeeze the Menu button and accidentally press R2 in the process
- Open GameSwitcher by pressing Menu properly
- Resume the game and attempt to undo the last save load in the RetroArch menu
